BRANTWOOD, originally being the principal building of a small estate, is an attractive country residence, dating from the early 18th century. Its olde worlde charm with oak beams and log fires in the winter, conjures up an atmosphere of the past with the comforts of the present.

Reputedly an early Quaker meeting place, Brantwood stands in three acres of secluded gardens in the picturesque village of Stainton.

Conveniently situated for the Motorway, the Hotel is ideally suited for a tour base for the Lakes or as an overnight Journey Break

DRIVE through the archway to the large secure car park at the rear of the hotel into the tranquillity of 'Brantwood' where a warm friendly welcome awaits you.

The Hotel is family owned and managed by Susan and John Harvey, with their sons Stephen (executive chef) and Mark (restaurant manager).

Their aim is to provide good food and comfort in an atmosphere of informality, peace and relaxation. Guests can enjoy a holiday or break away from the cares of everyday life.

The 12 bedrooms are all en-suite with shower or bath and shower, colour television, radio, tea/coffee making facilities and direct dial telephone.

Although the Hotel is centrally heated, electric blankets are provided for the cooler evenings.

The Restaurant offers friendly service, freshly prepared foods from a Table d'Hôte or a là Carte menu, and a good selection of wines.

ln the main bar an extensive menu is available for an informal meal.

There are many places of historic interest and natural beauty within a short drive of the hotel. These include the dramatic waterfall of Aira Force, historic Dalemain House and Hutton-in-the-Forest, the landscapes of Eden Valley, breathtaking Kirkstone Pass and the beauty of the Cumbrian Mountains.

Also within easy motoring distance are Carlisle Cathedral, Hadrian's Wall and Gretna Green. The Beatrix Potter Gallery, Wordsworth's Home and John Ruskin's "Brantwood" are some of the many other interesting places to visit.

Outdoor pursuits available nearby include walking, fishing, shooting, pony trekking, sailing, swimming and windsurfing.

We are situated 2 1/2 miles west of the Market Town of Penrith and 3 miles from Ullswater, perhaps the most beautiful natural Lake in Cumbria and just two miles form Junction 40 of the M6 alongside the Keswick Road.
